I just wanted to thank so many of you for your support and concern the past few weeks as we waited to find out if my job was secure for next year. As I posted previously, I am safe for next year. I will be teaching all English at Wyoming Park in my own classroom again, and for that I am so very thankful. I love my job, I love the students, and I love our staff.
The unfortunate news is that I may have to go through this all over again next year with the results not being as peachy. This was just printed in the Grand Rapids Press about our budget:

This is REALLY scary news for our district. We are trying to remain optimistic by being thankful that I have a job for one more year, but we are also aware that I really have no job security from year to year until the Michigan economy turns around...and more specifically the Grand Rapids area economy.
I can only hope and pray that taxpayers and those who make the decisions concerning budgets realize that the only way out of poverty and despair is an education. And the best I can do is try to convey that to my students every day...while I still can.
