Cort and Kate Plus One

I don't have pics to post yet. Well, I do...but they are across the room and I am not allowed to walk. But as I type this, our little man, Edward Steven is sleeping ever so soundly next to me.

He has arrived! On his due date even!

Cort and I learned today that it isn't called labor for nothing! We arrived at the hospital around 5:00 am after I was up all night having contractions...HARD contractions...that we didn't even KNOW where contractions! They just felt like cramps! But at 4:00 am, I got Cort up and said he HAD to call the hospital...I just couldn't stand it anymore. So we went in.

I was already 4.5 cm and about 80% efaced. The called in the epidural right away and I could have KISSED that man! Everything was suddenly better and I could nap a bit.

By about 2:15 I started pushing. I pushed and pushed for almost 2 hours. But it wasn't happening. My pelvis was just too small, Ed was too big, and I was getting a fever. So they made the call to do a C-section at 4:30. By 4:51 our man was here!

He weighed a hefty 9 lbs 8 oz and is 20 inches long. He is the most perfect creature I have ever seen! Cort got to hold him first and I have never seen such a proud daddy!

Cort took Ed upstairs and the docs took me to recovery where I got a little nap while they worked on getting my fever down and my shivering to stop.

I was brought back upstairs around 6:00 to find Grandma Kim, Grandpa and Grandma Riemersma, Uncle Cody, Aunt Liz, Uncle Chris, Uncle Mike, and Aunt Ashley waiting to meet Eddie! It was so great to see everyone even though I must look a SIGHT!

So...that is Eddie's birthday story...and he was right on time...today was his due date, so he decided he was due! I will post pictures probably tomorrow after I can sit up better and walk around.

Tonight, Ed, Cort, and I rest. Thank you all for all your love and support. I hope to have a quick recovery so I can be the best mom possible for Ed...and Cort is already the best dad I have ever seen!

We love you all,
Kate, Cort, and Eddie :)

Oh man those shivers after c-section are the worst. I am so glad you made it through. I feel crazy like I have been stalking you today!! I can't wait to see the pitures, but I know how it goes. No walking for a while and when you do it will feel weird. So happy you have your little boy with you and you are all well and comfortable!!! Soooo happy!!
