Tick....Tick....Tick...

Look at that face! It's hard to believe Eddie is already a MONTH old! Where did the time go? And he looks so quiet and innocent, doesn't he?
Well let me tell you...this boy has LOTS to say! Generally he has 2 or 3 times (of about 30 minutes or so) a day when he is just happy and chatty and active. He likes to tell stories (ok, he coos and sighs a lot...but I think they are the beginnings of stories) to his mama and daddy. He has also found that the elephant on the wall next to his changing table is a great conversationalist. Who knew his first friend would be a blue elephant on a wall!

Sometimes, though, our sweet baby gets grumpy. He typically has 3 or so times a day (usually after he's eaten and been playing) where it is just hard to settle down and take a nap...even though by his signs, that is EXACTLY what he needs to do! If we are not so lucky, he winds himself up so tight he hollers for LOONNGGG stretches of time.

So we try all sorts of things. As I mentioned before, he loves that dang elephant on the wall of his bedroom, so we will let him look at him for a while. He also tends to calm down outside...
Sometimes it's a tummy issue. His Granny Kim showed Cort how to hold him like this...and it works! Sometimes.
The end result--whether it comes in 15 minutes or 3 hours--is always the same.
And then we tend to get anywhere from 4-6 hours of sleep from him while he rests up! I can say that these "bouts" are getting better as he learns to soothe himself and we learn what signs to watch for that he is getting overly tired.

Even though those are tough (and tiring) lessons to learn, we are LOVING being parents. Eddie makes us laugh every day with his funny faces and the new things he learns to do.
