Rage Against the (Failing) Machine

The only news I have about my job are still uncertainties. Yesterday the district released the proposed cuts--including 20.4 teaching positions--for our district to save the over $2.4 million due to the state cuts in funding. My position is not on the list to be eliminated, however, it is proposed that we cut ALL of our counseling office positions (leaving our district with no counselors for our students), and those positions are usually held by people who are also certified teachers. In fact, one of the counselors at Park is certified to teach English. While there are no answers to where those people will go, it is definitely not out of the question for me to at least prepare for the worst--my position being given to someone else.

While I would probably still have a job with the district, the students would most definitely suffer from all the changes and shifts.

Wyoming Public Schools is NOT alone is this devastation to education funding. They are cutting at-risk programs and teachers all over Michigan.

What can we do about it? Bombard our legislators to DO SOMETHING!!! We elected them to work for us--how can Michigan ever hope to get better when we are cutting the life-line to our future--education?

Please, if you feel called to do something instead of letting it just "work itself out" or figuring "someone else will surly voice their displeasure," PLEASE just take 2 seconds out of your day to drop a line via email to our state leaders to tell them it is unacceptable to you that students are getting the shaft.

In fact, to help you, you can go to this link to search for your reps and senators. Tell them you want better short- and long-term funding solutions for public education.

Please. This isn't for my job. I can get another job if I have to. This is for the students who need a good education to get into college so that they can bring new, higher-level jobs to Michigan so we can have a brighter future.

Please.
